Bad Breath- Causes and Prevention
Halitosis, commonly known as bad breath, can result from poor dental habits and hygiene. Also, it mostly occurs due to unhealthy food and food leftovers in mouth.

Generally you don’t recognize the bad breath but the people around you do. To know if you have a bad breath just lick the wrist of any hand with the back of your tongue and wait until the saliva dries. Smell your wrist after a few minutes and if it smells unpleasant than you are likely to have bad breath.

What can cause Bad Breath- Causes and Prevention?

1) Use of tobacco products/ smoking: A bad habit such as use of alcohol, tobacco or excessive smoking is one of the major causes of bad breath. (Stop Bad Breath)
2) Poor oral hygiene: Bad breath is not only because of the eating and drinking habits but it can also be caused by not keeping proper oral hygiene. Poor dental care leads to plaque buildup in mouth which causes bad breath.(Stop Bad Breath)
3) Dry mouth: Saliva is produced continuously by our tongue but due to lack of hydration or while sleeping it minimizes the production of saliva resulting in a dry mouth and thus causes bad breath. Dry mouth is also known as Xerostomia. (Stop Bad Breath)
4) Food leftovers: After eating, some leftovers of the food remains stuck in the teeth and rots with the time causing bad breath.(Stop Bad Breath)

Prevention of bad breath:

1) Regular brush and floss: Regular brush and floss (twice a day) helps keeping the mouth clean and prevent food leftovers stuck in the teeth. Also it leaves the mouth feeling fresh and healthy.(Stop Bad Breath)

2) Eat food that smells good: Food with unpleasant odor will leave the mouth stinking but food rich in vitamin c and fibers such as melons, berries, citrus fruits, carrots etc. with a pleasant smell will not only prevent bad breath but will also helps in keeping the teeth and gums healthy. 3) Keep a handy mouthwash: The best and easiest way to remove and prevent bad breath is the use of mouthwash. Every time you feel a sour tongue or dry mouth just use a good minty mouthwash which will remove the odor and leave your mouth fresh. (Stop Bad Breath)

4) Chew mint leaves frequently: Mint leaves are rich with astringent that kills the bacteria causing bad breath. The aroma and minty taste removes bad breath. (Stop Bad Breath)

5) Rinse your mouth after every meal: After each meal it is very important to rinse your mouth to avoid any leftovers stuck in the teeth. (Stop Bad Breath)
