OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER or OCD

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

Can't you stop thinking about dirt or germs that you could come into contact with, and ritualistically use hand sanitizer or wash hand too frequently or ever baffled by your friends obsession for symmetry? These are the classic example of Obsessive-Compulsive disorder (OCD).  Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder signalized by perennial and perturbing thoughts (called obsessions) and/or repetitive, ritualized behaviors that the people carve to perform (called compulsions). Obsessions can also take the form of intrusive images or unwanted urges. In most cases people with OCD have both obsessions and compulsions, but seldom have obsessions alone or compulsions alone.
The above mentioned condition doesn’t confirm the person is suffering from Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD) but any hint of similar behavior demands a closer look by a professional. There is no reliable diagnostic test for OCD is devised so far, a thorough face to face interview by an experienced mental health professional is imperative. Despite there are few things one can consider to rule out other neurological conditions. In fact it is common to self diagnose before reaching out for outside help. Try to watch carefully for following signs:
Obsession:

  • Excessive decontamination, undue concern over germs, disease, infection.
  • Irrational fears such as causing an accident scratch him- or herself or another person with a sharp object, etc.
  • Intemperate stress on Symmetry.
  • Suspicious of others.
  • Idée fixe on particular number or series of numbers performing tasks a certain number of times regardless of sense or expediency.
  • Preoccupation with spiritual or religious concerns such as the afterlife, death or morality.
  • Stockpiling of useless or meaningless objects such as old magazines or food.
  • Obsessive thinking about sex; disturbing writing or doodling of a sexual nature.
Compulsions:
  • Gratuitous of washing hands; wiping everything before touching; brushing teeth until gums bleed.
  • Returning to check that the door is locked more than once.
  • Need to have socks at same height on each leg; cuffs of exactly equal width.
  • Counting of steps while walking; insistence on performing a task a specific number of times.
  • Performing a senseless task repeatedly until it “feels right;” redoing a task that has already been acceptably completed.
  • Hiding food under the bed; refusing to throw away empty bottles or discarded clothes, for instance.
  • Expedient repetition of protective prayers or chants.
The list is not exhaustive and one may, at some point in time or consistently, engage in one or even a few of the above obsessions or compulsions. But if somebody is indulged in several of these activities for a longer duration then presence of following will endorse a typical case of Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD):
  • stress
  • Insomnia
  • depression
  • agitation
  • manic need to keep busy
  • academic difficulties, including slowness to complete easy work
  • behavioral difficulties such as angry outbursts when questioned about odd rituals or desires
  • social difficulties or a desire to spend excessive time alone
  • Family conflict over usually mundane details.
Now it’s time to get help.

There are two types of standard recommended treatments for Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD): medications and cognitive behavior therapy which requires the skill of expert therapist and due diligence of the patient. Unfortunately, not everyone responds to treatment for OCD. This accentuates the need for ongoing research into the causes of OCD so that new and better treatments can be developed. There is reason to be optimistic about the future. Interest in OCD has exploded and we seem to learn more about it every day. The first step is to recognize that you or your loved one may have OCD and that help may be just around the corner. What types of diseases are caused by Staph?

What types of diseases are caused by Staph?

Skin infections are the most common type of disease produced by Staphylococcus. Staph infections of the skin can progress to impetigo (a crusting of the skin) or cellulitis (inflammation of the deeper layers of skin and connective tissue under the skin, leading to swelling and redness of the area). In some situations, a serious complication known as scalded skin syndrome  can develop. In breastfeeding women, Staph can result in mastitis (inflammation of the breast) or abscess of the breast. Staphylococcal breast abscesses can release bacteria into the mother's milk.
When the bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread to other organs, a number of serious infections can occur. Spread of the organisms to the bloodstream is known as bacteremia  or sepsis. Staphylococcal pneumonia predominantly affects people with underlying lung disease and can lead to abscess formation within the lungs. Infection of the heart valves (endocarditis) can lead to heart failure. Spread of Staphylococci to the bones can result in severe inflammation of the bones known as osteomyelitis. When Staph bacteria are present in the blood, a condition known as staphylococcal sepsis or staphylococcal bacteremia occurs. Staphylococcal sepsis is a leading cause of shock and circulatory collapse, leading to death, in people with severe burns over large areas of the body. When untreated, Staph aureus sepsis carries a mortality (death) rate of over 80%. Although not common, Staph aureus has been reported as a cause of chorioamnionitis and neonatal sepsis in pregnancy, but group B streptococci are the most common bacterial cause of this life-threatening condition for the fetus.
Staphylococcal infections are contagious and can be transmitted from person to person. Since pus from infected wounds may contain the bacteria, proper hygiene and hand washing is required when caring for Staph-infected wounds.
Staphylococcal food poisoning is an illness of the bowels that causes nauseavomitingdiarrhea, and dehydration. It is caused by eating foods contaminated with toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus rather than a true infection with the bacteria. Symptoms usually develop within one to six hours after eating contaminated food. The illness usually lasts for one to three days and resolves on its own. Patients with this illness are not contagious since toxins are not transmitted from one person to another.

Toxic shock syndrome is an illness caused by toxins secreted by Staph aureus bacteria growing under conditions in which there is little or no oxygen. Toxic shock syndrome is characterized by the sudden onset of high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle aches, followed by low blood pressure (hypotension), which can lead to shock and death. There may be a rash resembling sunburn, with peeling of skin. Toxic shock syndrome was originally described and still occurs especially in menstruating women using tampons.

What are the symptoms and signs of a Staph infection?

What are the symptoms and signs of a Staph infection?

Staphylococcal disease of the skin usually results in a localized collection of pus, known as an abscess, boil, or furuncle, depending upon the exact type of lesion that is present. The affected area may be red, swollen, and painful. Drainage or pus is common.
When Staph is in the blood (bacteremia or sepsis), it can cause high fevers, chills, and low blood pressure.  Deep abscesses, pneumonia, osteomylitis, and most other internal infections are only seen by X-ray and other imaging techniques or are not visible at all (for example, toxic shock, food poisoning).
How are Staph infections diagnosed?

In cases of minor skin infections, staphylococcal infections are commonly diagnosed by their appearance without the need for laboratory testing. More serious staphylococcal infections such as infection of the bloodstream, pneumonia, and endocarditis require culturing of samples of blood or infected body fluids. The laboratory establishes the diagnosis and performs special tests to determine which antibiotics are effective against the bacteria.
Diagnosis of staph infections begins with attempting to culture the bacteria from an infected site. Any area with pus, crusty drainage, or blisters should be cultured. Blood from patients with sepsis, toxic shock, or pneumonia should be cultured. Standard microbiological techniques (growth on Baird-Parker agar plates and a positive coagulase test) identify staph. S. aureus lyses red blood cells in blood agar plates (hemolytic staph) while S. epidermidis does not (non hemolytic staph).

All staph should be further tested to see if the bacteria are resistant to the antibiotic methicillin (and other  antibiotics) and thus determine if the organisms are MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). This test is important as MRSA organisms are resistant to many antibiotics usually prescribed for staph infections.

What is Staphylococcus?

Staphylococcal infections

Infection caused by Staphylococcal organisms can lead to a variety of diseases, including pneumonia, abscesses, bone infections (osteomylitis), joint infection (arthritis), and a number of skin infection (impetigo, pimples and, boils). Staphylococcus aureus also causes toxin-related illnesses, including toxic shock syndrome, scaled skin syndrome, and staphylococcal related food poising. In fact Staphylococcal bacteria are the leading cause of food poisoning.

What is Staphylococcus?

Staphylococcus is a group of bacteria that can cause a number of diseases as a result of infection of various tissues of the body. Staphylococcus is more familiarly known as 'Staph' . Staph-related illness can range from mild and requiring no treatment to severe and potentially fatal.
The name Staphylococcus comes from the Greek staphyle, meaning a bunch of grapes, and kokkos, meaning berry, and that is what Staph bacteria look like under the microscope, like a bunch of grapes or little round berries. (In technical terms, these are gram-positive, facultative anaerobic, usually unencapsulated cocci.)
Over 30 different types of Staphylococci can infect humans, but most infections are caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococci can be found normally in the nose and on the skin (and less commonly in other locations) of around 25%-30% of healthy adults and in 25% of hospital workers. In the majority of cases, the bacteria do not cause disease. However, damage to the skin or other injury may allow the bacteria to overcome the natural protective mechanisms of the body, leading to infection.

You want to drink that Sweet Soda, please have a look at it

The title of this article (if titles could be absurdly long) ought to most likely perused, "Before you drink that pop, caffeinated beverage, fake tree grown foods juice or another sugar-stacked refreshment, read this."  The normal American drinks 45 gallons of these refreshments consistently, and new research demonstrates that we're stacking our bodies with a much more terrible mixture of horrible parts than we might suspect.

A prominent line rehashed by the High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) industry is "sugar will be sugar," implying that HFCS is insignificantly unique in relation to regular sugar, otherwise called sucrose. Sucrose is made out of equivalent amounts of glucose—the type of sugar the body utilizes for fuel—and fructose—a manifestation of sugar handled in the liver and changed over into fat. Yet a study directed by the Childhood Obesity Research Center (CORC) at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California asserts that the "sugar will be sugar" contention simply isn't so.

Truth be told, refreshments containing HFCS, including Coca-Cola , Pepsi, Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew, and Sprite, all contain half more fructose than glucose, as indicated by the study.

"We discovered what winds up being expended in these refreshments is not common sugar or HFCS, yet rather a fructose-extreme blend that could build one's danger for diabetes, cardiovascular malady and liver infection," said Michael Goran, Ph.d., executive of the CORC and lead creator of the study. "The human body isn't intended to process this manifestation of sugar at such abnormal states. Dissimilar to glucose, which serves as fuel for the body, fructose is prepared just about totally in the liver where it is changed over to fat."

The exploration group's investigation of drinks made with HFCS demonstrated a fructose to glucose degree of 60:40 — fundamentally higher than the equivalent extents found in sucrose and testing the oft rehashed claim that "sugar will be sugar."

Drinks tried in the study were picked focused around their notoriety and their sugar organization was dissected in three separate labs utilizing three separate strategies. The results were reliable over the diverse labs and techniques: drinks made with HFCS contained 60% fructose and 40% glucose.

Just as disturbing was the finding that a percentage of the items asserting to contain "characteristic sugar" (sucrose)—including Sierra Mist and Gatorade —really contained more than half fructose. This discovering proposes that these items might really be made with HFCS, which isn't uncovered on their names.

"It's critical for us to have a more precise understanding of what we're really drinking, including particular mark data on the sorts of sugars," said Goran.

Why does this make a difference?

Permit the detail to tell the story: Americans devour a larger number of HFCS than another country. Our utilization of HFCS has multiplied in the most recent three decades. In the same time period, the rate of Type 2 Diabetes has tripled.

Past exploration has demonstrated that Americans devour around 55 lbs of HFCS for every year. For a visual on that, envision four racks in a market each one containing around 14 one pound sacks of granulated HFCS. In the event that that would appear to be an awful add up to devour, much throughout the span of a year, that is on account of it is.

Extra research has demonstrated that devouring eating regimen drinks doesn't generally help our situation. The best gameplan is to quit drinking sugary and fake sugar drinks through and through, or at any rate decrease to a more direct level.

Health is a positive outcome that is meaningful for people and society. Health integrates mental health (mind) and physical (body) health resulting in disease prevention and health promotion.

Systematic activities to prevent or cure health problems and good health in humans are undertaken by health care providers. The maintenance and promotion of health is achieved through different combination of physical, mental, and social well being together.

A persons social life can have a great effect on their mental health and maintaining a healthy social life can play a significant part in recovery from severe mental illness. The ability to adapt and to self manage have been suggested as core components of human health.

Health can be improved by focusing on factors like exercise, enough sleep, maintaining body weight, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding smoking. Apart from these factors environmental parameters, personal hygiene and genetics or hereditary are also important for a person to be  healthy.

Adverse conditions or unfavorable environment are the potential cause of deceasing health. There are lots of type of health issues across the globe. Disease is one of the most common type which affects an individual making him/her unhealthy.

Disease can be further classified as
